17-year-old faces capital murder charges in stabbing death

Houston residents may have heard about a recent incident involving two teenagers. When police arrived at the scene of a recent stabbing, they took a 17-year-old into custody. Reportedly, he was found with a knife, three cellphones and blood on his face as he skipped around on the street. When questioned, police say the teen admitted to the murder of the 18-year-old victim.

Even though police say the teen was holding a knife when they encountered him, it was also reported that police found a weapon supposedly tossed by him at some point. It was located with the help of a nearby resident who is said to have known the teen accused of the crime for some time. The teen's girlfriend says she witnessed the stabbing of the other teen when she fled the scene in order to get some help from the same nearby resident.

According to reports, the girlfriend showed the teen texts between her and the victim who was then supposedly lured to a trailer to be robbed. The girlfriend says that her boyfriend attacked the victim. The confrontation then moved out of the trailer. Purportedly, there was a trail of blood and other evidence at the scene.

Despite the apparent wealth of evidence, the young man involved in this incident still has legal rights. He may face charges of capital murder, but that does not mean that he loses the right to present a defense just as anyone else here in Houston facing criminal charges would. Prosecutors will be responsible for proving beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law that this young man committed the crime for which he faces charges.
