Traffic stop results in heroin trafficking charges in Texas

Criminal charges can change a person's life in many ways. Often, these changes have negative impacts on the individual and could result in jail time and other consequences if a conviction takes place. When accused of trafficking heroin, the party will undoubtedly want to ensure that he or she understands the seriousness of the situation and how it could be dealt with.

Two women in Texas are currently facing such a predicament. Reports stated that a 23-year-old woman was driving an SUV that was also occupied by another 23-year-old woman. The passenger's 3-month-old child was also in the vehicle. A police officer reportedly stopped the SUV for an undisclosed reason. Also for unclear reasons, the officer apparently requested to search the vehicle, which the driver allegedly agreed to.

The search reportedly resulted in the officer discovering 51 lbs. of heroin in the SUV. It is speculated that the street value of the substance is approximately $10 million with a wholesale value of around $2 million. As a result, both women were taken into custody on aggravated drug trafficking charges. Child Protective Services took custody of the infant.

The women may not fully understand their legal options, and this lack of knowledge could leave them feeling confused and anxious. However, they do have options for obtaining information on the heroin trafficking charges, criminal defense options and other relevant information they believe may help them as their cases move forward. Utilizing local Texas legal resources could allow them to gain reliable and useful knowledge relating to their predicaments.
